A pity there is no one with the ceremonial as well as professional standing to bridge the divide.  Perhaps the new India chair at Oxford, endowed by the Indian Government to further understanding of Indian history and culture but located in the heart of Western (to say nothing of British) scholarship, furnishes an opportunity.
