What about Urvashi Vaid? I don't know whether she has done any "great" humanitarian work, but I suppose for being the leading spokeswoman (er, should I say spokes-person?) for gay and lesbian "awareness", and being an Indian at that, a story about her and her work could possibilly be worthwhile.
